Spicy Savoy Cabbage Chips

January 26, 2016

I love making these as a quick and healthy snack. They taste super yummy and cheesy (let’s take a moment to be thankful for the existence of nutritional yeast please!).

No they are not potato chips and they don’t taste like them either which doesn’t make them any less delicious though. ButΒ if you’re not a big fan of cabbage you should probably skip this one. Because cabbage tastes like cabbage, even if it comes in the form of chips πŸ™‚

Ingredients:

  • 1/2Β a head of cabbage
  • 1/2 c cashews
  • 1/2 c sunflower seeds
  • 1 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp of nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp chili flakes
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • salt
  • pepper

Method:

To begin, quick soak your cashews and sunflower seeds by covering them with boiling water and letting them sit for about 15-30 minutes. Next preheat your oven to 140C. Cut your cabbage into litte bite size pieces and transfer them into a large bowl.

Then add all of the remaining ingredients into a blender or food processor and process until it forms a paste. Add the paste in the bowl with the cabbage and using your (clean) hands mix it thoroughly so all of the cabbage is covered. Transfer the cabbage onto a baking tray (you might want to use more than one tray or make a few batches) and bake for 20 mins. When the cabbage is crispy take it out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.

These look amazing! Do they turn out thicker than kale chips? My biggest gripe about kale chips is how thin they are so using cabbage seems like a great alternative. Thanks so much for sharing!

They do turn out a tiny bit thicker. But what I actually prefer with these ones is that they are flat (so like actual chips). πŸ™‚

HOLD UP. You can make cabbage chips???? Whaaaat? This is wild!!! I really need to try this out! and I had no idea that nutritional yeast tasted like cheese! I need to get some even if it’s just for myself. Being lactose intolerant really makes a rainy day on your cheesy parade.

Looks BEAUTIFUL. I love cabbage too. It was bred into me as the product of immigrant farmers. πŸ˜‚
