Epic 5 Minute Vegan Pesto

Making you own pesto is so incredibly easy (and cheaper) that you will probably never want to buy the store bought ones again and it only takes about 5 minutes. Making it the perfect home cooked lazy dinner recipe.

I like to add mine on oven baked potatoes and of course pasta, it also works great on salads and pizza!

You can also change up this recipe by adding some arugula instead of the basil or even coriander. The possibilities with pesto are endless.

Serves about 5-6


  • 1/2 c blanched almonds
  • 1 large handful of fresh basil leaves
  • 1 small clove of garlic
  • 5 tbsp of cold pressed olive oil
  • 3 tbsp of water
  • 1 1/2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • pinch of lemon juice
  • salt & pepper to taste


In a food processor grind the almonds into a course flour. Next add the basil leaves and the garlic and blend until they are well incorporated with the nuts. Then add the remaining ingredients and blend until a smooth pesto forms.

You can substitute a few tablespoons of olive with more water, but I wouldn’t recommend leaving the oil out entirely.


Ps.: Make sure you use the best quality olive oil you can find. It will not only make a huge difference in taste, but bad quality and overly processed oils can be pretty bad for you.
